| 12/27: LAPD Checkpoints: Today and next Saturday! Spread the word! |
Released 03 January 2010  By Ron Gochez
LAPD Sobriety and drivers license checkpoints. Union del Barrio makes the call to all working class people in general and to Raza in particular to educate and organize in our communities to defend ourselves from these racist police/sheriff checkpoints that are strategically placed in predominantly Raza and African communities. They know that many in our community are undocumented so they capitalize on this by attacking our neighborhoods with these checkpoints to legally steal our people's vehicles! We call on the Raza and African community to continue to join, organize and build together to combat these attacks that see both of us as the enemy!
Because of THEIR capitalist recession, the LAPD, the City of LA and it's neo-colonial mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, believe that they can rescue their budget deficit by launching a campaign to steal our people's vehicles. These Checkpoints have proven to be a Multi-MILLION Dollar Industry for the city at the expense of working class people! We must send them a clear message that we will not be intimidated and we will not allow them to continue to come into our neighborhoods to steal our property!
In the past 24 Hours we have received nearly 100 calls from community members who are providing us with information about Checkpoints in their communities and who have asked us for guidance in how to defend themselves from these checkpoints. This will build up to a Community Forum that Union del Barrio is organizing on January 27th, 2010 at 5:00PM at Santee Education Complex. The focus of this forum will be to educate our community on their rights as well as how to organize in our communities to defend ourselves from these Checkpoints.
Union del Barrio also reminds our communities that all of these INCREASING attacks against our community that include racial profiling, Immigration Raids, deportations, police brutality & terrorism, E-verify/I-9 Audits are being implemented by a city with a Hispanic neo-colonial DEMOCRATIC mayor, in a state with two DEMOCRATIC Senators, by a Congress that is fully controlled by the DEMOCRATIC Party and by a DEMOCRATIC President that promised us "Hope" and "Change". Our community is quickly realizing that the Democratic Party is no better for our communities than the Republican Party. Our enemy and the enemy of all poor and oppressed people's is the capitalist system itself.
