3/21-27: SF Hunger Strike for Immigrant Rights! LGBT Voices needed!!!!
Released 15 March 2006  By Bay Area Immigrant Rights Coalition

SF Hunger Strike for Immigrant Rights! LGBT Voices needed!!!!
March 21-27, 2006

A hunger strike will take place next week in San Francisco to oppose HR 4437, which will do a lot of damage to all immigrants and their families, regardless of the immigrants' status. From green card holders to undocumented immigrants, all will bear the brunt of this new law.

Please join other advocates in opposing HR 4437, and Senator Arlen Specter's Markup. We are in need to LGBT people to join the hunger strike.

Please read below for more information. Please note, if you would like to join the hunger strike, a meeting will be held for strikers on Wednesday March 15 at 4 pm at the St. Peters Housing Committee, 474 Valencia, near 16th, room 120.

NO MORE ANTI-IMMIGRANT ATTACKS!
Senator Specter's proposal and the versions of HR 4437 will de-stabilize our communities and weaken everyone's rights and civil liberties. They will increase detention and deportation and facilitate abuse and discrimination.

We immigrants are part of the working class and communities of color that have made this country rich with our work, it's time to stand up for ourselves!

NO MORE ANTI-IMMIGRANT ATTACKS!

HUNGER STRIKE AND WEEK OF ACTIONS FOR JUSTICE AND SOLIDARITY
against the federal anti-immigrant proposals by Senator Specter and Representative Sensenbrenner (HR 4437)
March 21 - 27, San Francisco, CA

Sponsored by the Bay Area Immigrant Rights Coalition. Contact us at 510.938.7598.
BAIRC is a broad-based coalition of individuals and organizations working to build a unified voice for immigrant rights that transforms and improves the lives of immigrants. Please note that Love Sees No Borders is a member of BAIRC, and it is active as a member of both BAIRC's Comprehensive Immigration Reform Committee and its Leadership Council.

WHAT DO SPECTER & SENSENBRENNER (HR 4437) PROPOSE?
* Turn any person or organization that helps, employs, or provides any service to an undocumented immigrant into a criminal, including family members.

* Promote collaboration between federal immigration agents and local police agents, promote the use of stereotypes and discrimination against anyone that 'seems' or 'sounds' foreign.

* Promote racial discrimination in employment, housing, and facilitate retaliation against any immigrant that defends her/his legal rights.

* Militarize the border even more, which doesn't address the root causes immigration, but has caused more than 4,000 deaths since 1994.

* Will make it illegal to enter this country with false documents, which puts refugees and asylum seekers at risk, among others.

WHAT CAN I DO?

This month the Senate will consider these proposals. Join us in pressuring Senator Diane Feinstein, representative of California, so that she won't pass this anti-immigrant attack, or any version of it.

CONTACT SENATOR FEINSTEIN AT: (202) 224-5042 AND (415) 393-0707.
Tell her to SUPPORT immigrant/migrant rights and paths to legalization, and that she OPPOSE anti-immigrant enforcement-only proposals like the Specter and Sensenbrenner (HR4437) proposals.
