The Los Angeles DREAM Team Coalition will hold a DREAM Fast Vigil to stress the urgency and need for accountability around the strong bi-partisan student legalization legislations known as the DREAM Act and the Student Adjustment Act.
Students, educators, and their friends have held countless actions including call-in days, legislative visits, rallies, marches, sign on letters, petition drives, and national mobilization efforts, yet the DREAM Act has not seen significant movement in Congress since it passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a 16-3 vote in October 2003.
Congress will return to Washington DC in early September to close the session. In order to communicate our seriousness to our elected representatives and to increase public attention, we have launched the 2-week DREAM Fast Vigil, the most dramatic, non-violent grassroots DREAM Act effort to date!
This action is coordinated on the national level by the United We DREAM Campaign and the New American Opportunity Campaign.
Students will play a key role in this fasting since they will be in the front lines in the following events:
Sept 13 2004: FAST Vigil Launch Press Conference
Sept 14 2004: Cultural Arts Day
Sept 15 2004: Teacher Supporter Day
Sept 16 2004: General Supporter Day
Sept 17 2004: Citizenship Day/Voter Registration
Sept 18 2004: Parent Supporter Day
Sept 19 2004: Mock Graduation Event
Sept 20 2004: Interfaith Supporter Day
Sept 21 2004: Labor Supporter Day
Sept 22 2004: Political Accountability Day
Sept 23 2004: March and Vigil Day
Sept 24 2004: Skit and Puppet Activity
Sept 25 2004: Cultural Show Closing Join this historic event as we give the DREAM Act Campaign it's last push for this year.
TOGETHER, we can make thousands of students' dreams into Reality.
Here is how you can help:
