4/11: AgJOBS Sign on Letter Big Success! More to do |
Released 13 April 2005  By Bruce Goldstein - Farmworker Justice Fund, Inc.
More than five hundred organizations signed on to a letter that is being sent to every Senator today in support of AgJOBS. AgJOBS may come up for a vote this week or next week as an amendment to the supplemental appropriations bill. Thank you to all of those who helped put this left-right letter together. It will have a big impact. To download it and read it, go to our action alert page on our website http://www.fwjustice.org/action_alert.htm and click to get the letter.
But our job is not over. For example, we are hearing that Sen. Byron Dorgan (D.-N.D.) is receiving mail that is running 100 to 1 against AgJOBS. The anti-immigrant crowd is active. We must respond. Please help us generate calls and letters. Go to our action alert page and use the sample letters to send faxes to Senators.
Thanks.

Farmworker Justice Fund -- Action Alert for Week of April 11 --
ACTION ALERT ON AGJOBS FARMWORKER IMMIGRATION LEGISLATION - S. 359 VOTE POSSIBLE DURING APRIL -- YOU CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
UPDATE
Thank you to the more than 500 organizations that have signed on to the letter that will be sent to every Senator encouraging them to vote in favor of AgJOBS, the farmworker immigration legislation. Workers, employers, civil rights groups, religious organizations, Latino groups, and many others signed on to this extraordinary effort. We will post it on our website on Monday.
Farmworkers need your help to get the support of your Senator for the AgJOBS farmworker immigration bill, S. 359. Currently, S. 359 has 46 cosponsors (see the list below). Senator Craig and Senator Kennedy may offer this legislation soon, as early as late in the week of April 11, so it is important for you to act now.
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SENATOR -- SAMPLE LETTERS ATTACHED -- FAX NUMBERS ATTACHED
Please contact your Senator. We suggest sending a short letter by fax. You may also call or email your Senator. (Mailed letters will be delayed too long.)
If your Senator is not a cosponsor, please contact his office immediately and ask him/her to cosponsor the bill and to support the bill if it comes to the Senate floor for a vote.
If your Senator is a cosponsor, please thank him/her for supporting AgJOBS and ask him/her to support the bill when is comes for a vote on the Senate floor.
Two sample letters are available on our website. One is aimed at Senators who have not yet become cosponsors; it asks them to become cosponsors and to support a vote for AgJOBS. The other sample letter is for cosponsors; it thanks them and encourages them to vote for AgJOBS if it is offered. The fax numbers and phone numbers are in MS Word documents that you may download from our action alert page of our Legislative News section of our website, http://www.fwjustice.org/action_alert.htm To obtain other contact information for your Senator, please go to www.senate.gov and click onto your Senator's website.
If you call your Senators' offices, you may use the letter's contents as "talking points."
PLEASE CIRCULATE THIS EMAIL SO THAT THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS CONTACT THEIR SENATORS.
Thank you.
